Interview with Maggie Maclean

Courage is a trait not usually hard to find in America, but among the younger generations today, it appears to be rare. Sixteen year-old Maggie Maclean is quite the exception.
Maggie’s family moved to Tennessee from New Jersey when she was a freshman in high school. She didn’t waste time before getting involved in Turning Point USA, the non-profit organization that “promotes limited government, free markets, and freedom” and whose mission is “to educate, train, and organize students to promote freedom,” as stated on its website, https://www.tpusa.com.
As TPUSA chapter president at Nolensville High School in middle Tennessee, Junior Maggie Maclean conducts regular meetings discussing current events and efforts to recruit others to join the mission. She plans to have guest speakers this Spring including Stephanie Nash, a farmer who has appeared on Fox News, who will educate students on what government over-regulation has done to her business.
When I asked Maggie what it is like to be in charge of a group that is often times criticized, ostracized or made to feel ‘in the minority’ by today’s media, she responded enthusiastically with, “It can feel like you’re alone, but when you come together with like-minded others, it feels more empowering. I’m better able to continue to stand up (for the things I believe in). There is strength in numbers!”
In January of this year, Maggie was also involved in a Turning Point USA event, “Teens Against Gender Mutilation” that attracted 500 or so attendees and maybe 150 flamboyant protesters. One of the key speakers was eighteen-year-old Chloe Cole, a de-transitioning young woman who endured a transition when she was 15.
At the event, Chloe Cole shared that she was put on puberty blockers at 13 years old and underwent a double mastectomy at 15 years old. "I don't want anyone to go through what I have and that's why I'm up here," she said.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Chloe Cole expressed her fears, “I’m afraid that my generation, and the generations following mine, are going to be led astray down the same path that I was on,” which is a fear shared by those in Maggie Maclean’s TPUSA chapter.
In addition to Turning Point, Maggie is active in Young Women for America that is planning a “Culture of Life” event affirming the sanctity of life later this year. Another concern for Maggie is the issue of sex trafficking. She advocates for Freedom Forever which is a “non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children from abuse, trafficking, and exploitation in all forms.
When I asked Maggie how she became so passionate about such serious and important issues, she said she was raised as a Christian in a very patriotic family. She says, “We should cherish our unique freedoms. So many, too many, are not willing to be involved. I wouldn’t necessarily say kids my age are intimidated, but rather ignorant to what the Left is trying to push so they don’t feel the need to stand up.” Maggie also said that she has “seen people destroyed by the Left and their policies.” She concluded with, “My faith is the main factor in why I believe what I believe.”
Ronald Reagan said in 1961, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it, and then hand it to them with the well fought lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don’t do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free.”
Taking to heart Reagan’s sentiment, Maggie Maclean has gotten a head-start on righting the American ship by fighting for the truth and the liberty that is uniquely American.
The courageous Maggie Maclean says, “I don’t have any plans to study political science after high school. However, whatever I study, I plan to keep standing up for my freedoms no matter what.”
She’s already making a decisive difference at the tender age of 16. Just imagine what the future holds for this very American girl as she navigates, without fear, doing her part to restore liberty to a nation that is quickly losing it.
